🇮🇪 Ireland Wage After Tax - Complete 2025 Guide

Ireland uses a PAYE (Pay As You Earn) system with two income tax rates: 20% standard rate and 40% higher rate. In addition, employees pay the Universal Social Charge (USC) and Pay Related Social Insurance (PRSI). Tax credits reduce your final tax bill — the Personal Tax Credit and Employee Tax Credit together give EUR 3,750 per year for a single employee in 2025.

Tax Credits 2025

Personal Tax Credit

EUR 1,875 per year for all taxpayers. Directly reduces your income tax liability — not a deduction from income. Single, widowed, and married taxpayers all receive this credit.

Employee Tax Credit (PAYE Credit)

EUR 1,875 per year for PAYE workers. Combined with Personal Tax Credit, most single employees get EUR 3,750 total credits — effectively making the first EUR 18,750 income-tax free.

PRSI - Pay Related Social Insurance

4.1% on all income above EUR 352/week (EUR 18,304/year) for Class A employees. No PRSI if weekly earnings are EUR 352 or below. Funds social welfare, pensions, and health contributions.

Pension Relief

Contributions to an approved pension scheme are tax-deductible at your marginal rate. Age-based limits apply: under 30 = 15%, 30-39 = 20%, 40-49 = 25%, 50-54 = 30%, 55-59 = 35%, 60+ = 40% of net relevant earnings.

Medical Insurance Relief

Tax relief at 20% on medical insurance premiums paid. Relief is given at source (TRS) — providers reduce premiums automatically. Included in this calculator as a credit against tax.

Married Couple Benefits

Married couples with one income get a higher standard rate cut-off of EUR 53,000 (2025). With two incomes, each spouse gets up to EUR 44,000 at 20%. Marriage also doubles most tax credits.
